Navigating the Special Education System: How one Mom secured a private school placement and compensatory services for her son.

Meet Venesta Poleon and hear her story of how she successfully navigated the labyrinth of Special Education processes and barriers in New York City Public Schools.  Our evening will begin with a 20 minute recording of Vanesta sharing her son’s story, followed by a short presentation.  Lastly, there will be time for question and answers with Vanesta, allowing participants to apply her experiential wisdom to their current challenges.

About the presenter:  Venesta is a mom of three children and is currently pursuing a degree in Early Childhood at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. She will be completing her Associate’s degree this December and will continue her studies, specializing in Special Education.  She is a self-taught advocate for families and children with special needs with over 10 years of learned experience. Her personal journey has allowed her to connect other families to the necessary resources to be effective advocates for their children. Venesta believes that every child can learn in their own unique way and must be given an equitable opportunity to reach their full potential.
